Pride organizers in College Station, TX have cancelled their annual Pride picnic. The event that was expected to draw a couple hundred people has been cancelled due to violent threats via tumblr (A social media blog site). Following a mass shooting in Houston on July 4th, and three separate mass shootings in Texas last week. Five people were killed, fourteen injured.

Among the threats: a Tumblr post that said “Get some guns it’s time to get on the news,” alongside an image of a flyer for the picnic. Organizers of the event say they have filed a complaint with the FBI, and the local police department. The local police issued a subpoena to tumblr. However, Tumblr (Owned by Yahoo Inc.) has yet to respond.

With no prompt response from Tumblr and Yahoo, organizers decided that it would be best just to encourage people to stay home rather than risking another shooting. They’ve said that they’ll hopefully reschedule, but they don’t know when that might happen.
